Caves in Rana
Nordland is the area in Scandinavia with the best possibilities for caving. You can explore the caves in both summer and winter - and there is no weather reservations. There are two popular caves near Mo i Rana you can visit all year long. The caves has guided tours.
Gronligrotta Cave
Gronligrotta Cave is the only cave in the Nordic region which is enlighted. Something that has made it one of the most popular and most visited limestone caves the last hundred years. The cave is a network of passages, fabolous shapes and forms that water and ice have sculptured through thousands of years. The cave is 4200 metres long, and is located by the farm named Gronlia.
Setergrotta Cave
Setergrotta Cave is of the largest and most exciting caves in Norway – shaped by nature through thousands of years. Inside the cave you will experience potholes, huge chambers, limestone formations, marble passages and an underground river. This is very different from what you experience outdoors. The cave is about 3,4 km long.
Sport Fishing
You need to purchase a fishing licence card if you plan to fish in fresh water, lakes and rivers in Norway. Coast fishing in salt water are free. However, no more than 15 kilos of fish can be exported from Norway per person /year.
Freshwater fishing requires a combination of local and national licences, depending on the species sought. In some locations you may also need to buy a licence from the holder of the fishing rights. Licences for freshwater fishing in rivers, lakes and streams are issued by local authorities.
Rana River
Rana River can offer you the very best salmon fishing experiences throughout the season. Ranaelva is in the northern part of the region called Helgeland close to Mo i Rana. From the northwest comes water from the glacier Svartisen. In the north, from Saltfjellet mountain, comes Randals river and meets Virvass river at Elvmøthei about 70 km from the outlet. The river is about 130 km, and is rich in salmon and trout.
The National Park has excellent opportunities for fishing in mountain lakes. The National Park covering about 2,102 square kilometres of nature, that includes both alpine mountain formations with glaciers, as well as gently sloping mountain plateaus and forested valleys.
Alpine Resort
Mo i Rana have a modern Alpine Resort just outside the city. The facilities has a ski tow that takes you quickly to the top of the Basmo mountain. There you can choose to race in two slopes that is 1500 meters downhill. The facilities also has cross country trails for skiing, and you can even rent ski equipment on the site.

The resort open soon as the first snow has settled , usually in early December.
